Fellowship

Central to our life together is sharing in the fellowship of the church.  In addition to our choir and Midweek Manna activities, there are many opportunities to join in fellowship at First Presbyterian.   We strive to make every gathering of large or small groups in the church a time for fellowship and community.

PW (Presbyterian Women)
PW stands for Presbyterian Women which includes all the women of the church, even those who are unable to attend regular meetings. We meet the second Monday of each month at the church (1:30 p.m.) for study and fellowship. About every 2 years we hold a fund raising auction. The monies are used to help support The Good Samaritan center in Searcy,  the Vera Lloyd Children's home in Monticello, AR, and various outreach programs (both national & international) through our Presbytery, and items needed for our church building which are not covered by other means. 2013 will be our sixth year to provide scholarship money for some of our youth to attend Ferncliff Summer Camp.

Special Events
Throughout the year special events and meals are held to celebrate holidays and seasons in the life of the church.  All fellowship events are open to members and friends alike.

Some special events include:

  • Worship at Presbyterian Park
  • Potlucks to Commemorate Special Days
  • Ash Wednesday
  • Maundy Thursday
  • Easter Sunday
  • Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

Wine Club

The FPC Searcy wine club's 14th season has begun!
After 100+ meetings and the tasting of nearly 400 different bottles of wine the FPC wine club is still having fun!  We have observed and tasted the comings and goings of different wine trends and fads (the latest of which is red wine aged in bourbon barrels) and we are still finding things to learn about (corks vs screw tops, is box wine any good?, etc.).
While the general information is cumulative, each meeting (wine class) is designed to be "stand alone" and questions are always welcome.  Some of us attend every meeting and others just come whenever they are able.  Generally we pick a single grape to learn about and then sample wine from all over the world representing the gamut of styles possible to make.  Our goal - to learn enough that we have an 80% chance of buying a wine in a restaurant or sore that we will enjoy-  has never changed.  While no one will ever know every wine and winery in the world, one can learn enough to ask the proper questions to arrive at an informed decision.  It's not only fun, but cost effective as well.
Most classes are a combination of veterans and neophytes and the combination is conducive to having fun and lively conversation, and the bonus is good fellowship and tasting 3 or 4 wines.  We generally meet for 90 minutes and fellowship often continues for 30 minutes more.  Depending on the number of people in attendance the quantity of wine served is 2 standard glasses or less.  Some choose to imbibe and others taste and pour out the balance into the "dump pitchers" that are always provided.  Snacks are "potluck" and usually plentiful.  Class size varies from 10 to 30, but generally averages 12 to 15.  Most attendees are church members, but guests are always welcome, and many often return (and some have even joined our church!).
Wine can be intimidating, but we simplify it to make it easy and fun.  You may choose to come for the knowledge, or the fellowship, the wine, or just to have fun!
...and some choose all of the above as everyone is welcome!  Like our church, the wine club is inclusive, not exclusive!
